Focus on Crit Damage to improve your build. Remember: consistency beats big numbers. A 70/140 build outperforms 50/200 in most scenarios.
Understanding Crit Stats
What are Crit Rate and Crit Damage?
Critical hits are a core damage mechanic in most RPGs and action games. Understanding how they work is essential for optimizing your character builds.
The probability that your attack will be a critical hit. A 70% crit rate means 7 out of 10 attacks will crit on average. Higher crit rate provides consistent damage output.
The damage multiplier applied when you land a critical hit. 150% crit damage means your crits deal 2.5× your base damage (100% base + 150% bonus). Higher crit damage increases your damage ceiling.
The Golden 1:2 Ratio
The 1:2 crit ratio is mathematically proven to maximize average damage output. This means for every 1% crit rate, you should have 2% crit damage.
While the 1:2 ratio is optimal, slight deviations are acceptable. Aim to stay within 1:1.8 to 1:2.2 for best results. Going beyond this range significantly reduces your damage efficiency.
Crit Value Explained
Crit Value (CV) is a single metric used to evaluate the overall quality of your crit stats. It's calculated as: Crit Rate × Crit Damage
Note: While CV is useful for quick comparisons, ratio distribution still matters. A 40/400 build has high CV but performs worse than 70/200 due to inconsistency.
Build Optimization Strategies
Early Game Focus
When starting your build, prioritize crit rate first. Aim for at least 50-60% before heavily investing in crit damage.
- → Use crit rate weapons and artifacts
- → Select crit rate as ascension stat if available
- → Focus on crit rate circlet initially
Mid Game Balance
Once you have solid crit rate (60-70%), start balancing toward the 1:2 ratio by adding crit damage.
- → Switch to crit damage circlet if ratio allows
- → Hunt for artifacts with both crit substats
- → Consider crit damage weapons
Late Game Refinement
Perfect your ratio by optimizing substats. Aim for 70-85% crit rate and maintain the 1:2 ratio for maximum efficiency.
- → Farm artifacts with double crit rolls
- → Fine-tune with team buffs and resonance
- → Consider weapon refinements
Common Mistakes
Avoid these frequent pitfalls that hurt your build's overall damage potential and efficiency.
- ✗ Stacking crit damage without adequate crit rate
- ✗ Ignoring other important stats completely
- ✗ Over-capping crit rate beyond 100%
Game-Specific Optimization
⚔️ Genshin Impact
Genshin follows the standard 1:2 ratio. Most DPS characters want 60-80% crit rate with 120-160% crit damage. Cryo characters can run slightly lower CR due to cryo resonance (+15% CR).
🚂 Honkai: Star Rail
HSR also follows 1:2 ratio optimization. Target 70% crit rate minimum for reliable damage. Some characters like Seele benefit from high CR due to mechanics.
💎 Path of Exile
PoE has more complex crit mechanics. Diamond Flask provides 100% increased crit chance. Assassin ascendancy provides base crit. Aim for 1:3 ratio when possible.
👹 Diablo IV
Diablo IV uses additive and multiplicative scaling. Vulnerable damage multiplies with crits. Aim for 50%+ crit chance and stack crit damage through paragon and gear.
